Lords Committee to question Home Office Minister on Home Office failures to assess the impact of its legislation

Monday 25 March 2024

Tomorrow, Tuesday 26 March 2024, the cross-party House of Lords Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee will hear from Lord Sharpe of Epsom, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Home Office and accompanying officials in an evidence session which will consider concerns the Committee has raised in relation to the Department’s assessment of the impact of its legislation.

The session will seek to address the following:

  • Enquire further about the Home Office’s failure to publish the Impact Assessment relating to two recent Statements of Changes in Immigration Rules when those Rules were laid
  • Seek to understand how the Home Office can fully understand the effects of its policies if it does not consult those who will be impacted
  • Request an update on the work underway to improve the process for producing and signing off explanatory material to Home Office secondary legislation.

The session will start at 4.00pm and will be available to watch live or on demand at Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 1, Palace of Westminster.
