Lords Communications Committee to question Sky News and GB News on impartiality, finances and future of news

The House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee will next week take evidence in two sessions from senior executives at Sky News and GB News.
The sessions will focus on the role of private commercial broadcasters, their business models and financial sustainability, issues around impartiality and serving all audiences with trusted content, and regulatory oversight.
The evidence sessions will start at 1:15pm on Tuesday 26 March in Committee Room 4 of the House of Lords. The witnesses giving evidence will be:

- Jonathan Levy, Managing Editor and Executive Director, Sky News
2:10pm
- Angelos Frangopoulos, Chief Executive Officer, GB News
In the first session questions will cover a range of issues including Sky’s role in the news landscape and the value of independent commercial news broadcasters; how it is addressing the commercial challenges around providing high quality news journalism; issues around serving audiences with impartial content; and action from industry and the regulators to support trusted and reliable news online and offline.
The second session will explore the work of GB News and how it seeks to provide an alternative offer to other broadcasters; the organisation’s business model and financial sustainability; its position on providing impartial content and Ofcom’s oversight; and how it sees the future of broadcast news (particularly as some channels move away from television to become an online only services).
