Lords Communications Committee to take evidence on role of radio and podcast in news provision

The House of Lords Communications Committee will this week take evidence from representatives of Global Radio, LBC and the podcast company Acast as it explores the provision of news on audio platforms.

The evidence session will start at 2:30pm on Tuesday 19 March in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords. Giving evidence to the Committee will be:

  • Sebastian Enser-Wight, Chief Strategy Officer, Global
  • Tom Cheal, Managing Editor, LBC
  • Sam Shetabi, Creator Network Director, Acast
  • Shini Pattni, Legal Counsel, Acast

The session will explore the role of news radio and podcasting, and future changes. Key topics will include financial sustainability, the influence of tech platforms, and regulation. The session will also examine the growing popularity of political and news podcasts, and whether audiences see these as distinct from other genres.
