Care Quality Commission to give evidence on Modern Slavery
Friday 10 May 2024
On Monday, the House of Lords Modern Slavery Act 2015 Committee will hear evidence from James Bullion, Interim Chief Inspector for Adult Social Care at the Care Quality Commission (CQC), as part of its inquiry into the Act.
Questions the committee is likely to ask include:
- The Government recently announced that care agencies will only be able to sponsor workers if they are registered with the CQC. What is the impact of this change?
- There have been calls to establish a Single Enforcement Body to simplify the regulatory environment. Would you support this?
- Recent exploitation has been carried out primarily for financial reasons. How can this be better addressed in strategies to combat modern slavery?
- There have been many suggestions to improve the functioning of the UK’s visa system. What changes would the CQC recommend?
- Regulation in the care sector is performed by numerous bodies. What is the role of the CQC within this?
The session will take place on Monday 13 May 2024 at 3:35pm and can be followed live on Parliament TV.
