Lords Committee examines challenges of lived experience in eating a healthy and affordable diet
Wednesday 1 May 2024
Tomorrow, Thursday 2 May, the House of Lords Food, Diet and Obesity Committee will hear from charity ambassadors from the Food Foundation and youth board members of Biteback in two evidence sessions that will examine the challenges of lived experience in eating a healthy and affordable diet.
The Food Foundation is a charity that aims to change food policy and business practice to ensure everyone, across the UK nations, can afford and access a healthy and sustainable diet. Biteback is a charity that describes itself as a youth activist movement challenging the current food system.
The first session will start at 10.00am and the second session at 11.15am. Both sessions will be available to watch live or on demand at Parliament TV or attend in person in Committee Room 2, Palace of Westminster.
Questions will include:
- Tell us about why you decided to start campaigning on healthy and affordable food?
- How available and accessible is healthy and nutritious food in your local area? Can you tell us about any particular challenges with availability and access? What could help make it more available and accessible?
- How do you think food marketing influences what families and young people buy?
- What could help make it easier for families to feed babies and young children healthily?
- In your experience, is school food healthy, attractive and affordable? How could it be made better?
- How important are fast food outlets and takeaways for young people in your local area? What could help young people access healthier options?
- What do you think are the most important things the Government could do to enable young people to eat more healthily and help everyone access nutritious and affordable food?
