Lords Conduct Committee publish report into the conduct of Lord Ranger of Northwood
Friday 17 May 2024
The House of Lords Conduct Committee has today published a report into the conduct of Lord Ranger of Northwood recommending he be suspended from the House for three weeks and denied access to bars in the House of Lords for 12 months.
The recommendation follows an investigation by the House of Lords independent Commissioner for Standards into complaints received from two members of the parliamentary community regarding an incident that took place in the Strangers' Bar in the House of Commons on 17 January 2024. The Commissioner found that Lord Ranger’s behaviour towards the two complainants constituted bullying and harassment.
The Commissioner had recommended a suspension of one week in his initial report, but after hearing further representations from all parties the Conduct Committee recommended increasing the sanction.
The Conduct Committee’s report will now need to be agreed by the House prior to implementation. The House is expected to consider the report after the Whitsun Recess.
