Lords future skills inquiry hears from Amazon and Co-op
Friday 10 May 2024
The House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee continues its short inquiry into the UK’s future skills needs by hearing from industry representatives including Amazon and Co-op.
The session will run from 10.30am on Tuesday 14 May and can be followed live on Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 2, Palace of Westminster.
Giving evidence will be:
- Nicola Drury, UK Head of Skills and Apprenticeships, Amazon.
- Lloyd Thomas MBE, Future Workforce Skills and Capabilities Lead, Co-op Group;
- Shazia Ejaz, Director of Campaigns, Recruitment and Employment Confederation.
Possible questions include:
- What types of skills do you think employers will need for the future?
- Do we have the right institutions to ensure an effective skills system for the future?
- In a more mobile, flexible labour market, what incentives do employers have to provide training for their employees?
- Do your businesses view apprenticeships as a means of providing young people and new entrants with the skills they need for the labour market, as an opportunity for upskilling and retraining existing and older workers, or both?
The Committee’s call for evidence for the inquiry is open until Thursday 30 May. Details about how to submit evidence are available on the Committee’s website.
