Lords future skills inquiry hears from skills and employment Ministers

The House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee follows up on its short inquiry into the UK’s future skills needs by hearing from Government Ministers.

The session will run from 10.30am on Tuesday 26 November and can be followed live on Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster.

Giving evidence will be:

  • Baroness Smith of Malvern, Minister for Skills, Department for Education;
  • Alison McGovern MP, Minister for Employment, Department for Work and Pensions.

The committee will ask questions relating to the letter sent to Baroness Smith of Malvern by Baroness Taylor of Bolton, Committee chair, on Wednesday 23 October, calling on the Government to ensure that current apprenticeship and training programmes meet the UK economy’s future skills needs.

Topics include:

  • the post-16 education strategy and Get Britain Working White Paper;
  • the role of Skills England;
  • Local Skills Improvement Plans feeding into broader skills policy and funding;
  • apprenticeships and the Growth and Skills Levy;
  • delivering the youth guarantee;
  • further education funding.
