DBT and DSIT to give evidence on data and digital trade

Tomorrow the House of Lords International Agreements Committee will be hearing evidence from the Department for Business and Trade and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology on data and digital trade.
Giving evidence will be:
- Rt Hon. Douglas Alexander – Minister for Trade Policy and Economic Security, Department for Business and Trade
- Graham Floater – Director, US Services, Investment and Digital, Department for Business and Trade
- Baroness Jones of Whitchurch – Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Future Digital Economy and Online Safety, Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and Department for Business and Trade
- Vicki Brown - Head of Data Flows Policy, Department for Science, Innovation and Technology
Issues likely to be raised include:
- The role of digital trade in the Government’s overall approach to international trade and any opportunities or barriers
- The Government’s priorities in relation to Digital Trade Partnerships and digital provisions in future free trade agreements
- The Government’s approach to cross-border data flows and commitments to consumer privacy and data protection
- Regulatory cooperation with international partners on issues such as emerging digital technologies
- The Government’s approach to the use of source code provisions in trade agreements
- Coherence between government departments on issues such as the relationship between domestic regulation and legislation, and international trade objectives
- Stakeholder engagement and consultation on digital trade objectives and negotiations
- Mechanisms to reduce any frictions with existing trade partners by digitising trade
- The UK’s involvement in e-commerce discussions at the WTO
