Lords Committee to take urgent evidence following delay to EU Entry / Exit System
Monday 14 October 2024
Tomorrow the House of Lords Justice and Home Affairs Committee will be holding an urgent evidence session on the EU’s Entry / Exit System (EES), following the latest delay to its launch.
The session follows up on the committee’s recent Inquiry on Border Management and its longstanding interest in UK preparations for the launch of EES and ETIAS (the Electronic Travel Information and Authorisation System).
Giving evidence will be:
- John Keefe, Chief Corporate and Public Affairs Office at Getlink Troup
- Councillor Roger Gough, Leader of Kent County Council
- Gareth Williams, General Secretary and Chief Strategic Partnerships Officer, Eurostar
Possible questions include:
- What does a further delay to the EES launch mean for ongoing preparations, and what are the cost implications?
- Will any preparations for a 10 November launch of EES now have to be written off?
- What support have stakeholders had from the UK Government when preparing for the launch of EES?
- How have the local authorities and other agencies been working together to prepare for the launch of EES?
- What would a “phased launch” of EES look like?
- What does the delay to EES mean for the launch of the UK’s Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)?
The session will take place on Tuesday 15 October 2024 at 10:30am and can be followed live on Parliament TV.
