Lords committee hears from planning and consumer experts for its energy grid inquiry

The House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee continues its inquiry into the energy grid and grid connections by hearing from planning and consumer experts.

The session will run from 10.30am on Tuesday 25 February and can be followed live or afterwards on Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster.

At 10:30, the Committee will hear from:

  • Dr Pauleen Lane, Professional Lead, Infrastructure, Planning Inspectorate;
  • Dr Ada Lee, Policy Specialist, Infrastructure and Climate Change, Royal Town Planning Institute.

At 11:30, the Committee will hear from:

  • Frank Aaskov, Director, Energy and Climate Change Policy, UK Steel;
  • Teodora Kaneva, Head of Smart Infrastructure and Systems, techUK;
  • Andy Manning, Head of Energy Systems Transformation, Citizens Advice.

Possible topics include:

  • energy grid project approval processes;
  • speeding up the planning system;
  • community incentives and benefits to enable grid expansions;
  • the National Planning Policy Framework;
  • improving the service of energy networks for companies and consumers;
  • the impact the cost of energy networks have on consumer energy bills.

The Committee’s call for evidence for the inquiry is open until Friday 28 February.
