Lords committee hears from energy providers on the energy grid and grid connections

The House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee continues its inquiry into the energy grid and grid connections by hearing from energy providers.

The session will run from 10.30am on Tuesday 21 January and can be followed live or afterwards on Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster.

At 10:30, the Committee will hear from:

  • Rachel Fletcher, Director of Regulation and Economics, Octopus Energy
  • Chris Hewett, CEO, Solar Energy UK
  • Kara Davies, Policy Manager, Solar Energy UK

At 11:30, the Committee will hear from:

  • Raj Roy, General Counsel, UK and Ireland, Centrica
  • Matthew Ball, Senior Manager, Grid Policy, EDF Energy

Possible topics include:

  • the National Energy System Operator’s proposals to reform the connections queue;
  • barriers to delivering network infrastructure caused by the planning and consenting system;
  • incentives to encourage generation and energy demand to locate closer to one another;
  • Ofgem’s price controls;
  • regulation of energy networks.

The Committee’s call for evidence for the inquiry is open until Friday 28 February. Details how to submit evidence are available on the Committee’s website.
