Lords launches inquiry into energy grid and grid connections

Friday 10 January

The House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee begins its inquiry into the energy grid and grid connections by hearing from Charles Wood, Deputy Director, Policy at Energy UK.

The session will run from 10.30am on Tuesday 14 January and can be followed live or afterwards on Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 2, Palace of Westminster.

Possible questions include:

  • what is your view of the National Energy System Operator’s proposal to reform the connections queue?
  • what barriers to delivering network infrastructure are imposed by the planning and consenting system?
  • what community incentives or obligations might best enable grid expansion, and how should they be decided?
  • are Ofgem’s price controls sufficiently attractive to ensure the necessary investment to meet the UK’s clean power target?
  • is there sufficient strategic planning for distribution networks?
  • should the Government provide greater strategic guidance to the sector on how to drive growth and grid expansion?
