Lords EU committee to hear from David Davis, Daniel Hannan and Jude Kirton-Darling


The House of Lords EU Committee will this week take evidence from David Davis MP Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union as well as MEPs Daniel Hannan and Jude Kirton-Darling.

From 15:00 today the Committee will take evidence from Conservative MEP Daniel Hannan and Labour MEP Jude Kirton-Darling in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords.

Areas the session will cover include:

  • How the UK Government's model for its future relationship with the EU compares with the March 2018 European Council guidelines.
  • The role the European Parliament will play in shaping the future UK-EU relationship
  • Whether there are tensions or inconsistencies between the approaches of the European Council and the European Parliament
  • Potential economic opportunities and risks in the change in the UK-EU relationship post-Brexit.
  • What issues are likely to remain unresolved by the time the UK leaves the EU in 29 March 2019.

On Tuesday 1 May, at 16:30 in Committee Room 3, the Committee will hear from David Davis MP. Areas this session will cover include:

  • An update on the progress of negotiations since the 19 March press conference held with Michel Barnier.
  • Whether the draft legal text of the withdrawal agreement will be settled in time for the June European Council and what will happen if it is not?
  • His response to the recent debates and votes in both Houses of Parliament regarding the UK's membership of a customs union.
  • The UK Government's agreement with the Welsh Government regarding returning powers from Brussels and the continuing impasse with the Scottish Parliament
