Lords EU Committee to hold unusual recess evidence session to question Dominic Raab on Brexit negotiations

The House of Lords EU Committee will hold an extraordinary evidence session with Brexit Minister Dominic Raab MP on Wednesday 29 August. This unusual mid-recess session, held exactly seven months before the expiry of the Brexit deadline of 29 March 2019, reflects the vital importance to the UK and EU of the ongoing Brexit negotiations and the urgency of making progress ahead of the EU Summit in October if an agreement is to be reached to avoid a ‘no deal' Brexit.

The Committee will take evidence from Mr Raab from 2pm on Wednesday 29 August in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.

Areas the session will cover include:

  • The current state of play in the Brexit negotiations.
  • The feasibility of the Government's White Paper on future UK-EU relations
  • How the Government's proposed new Facilitated Customs Arrangement will work
  • How differences between the UK and EU over the Ireland/Northern Ireland backstop can be resolved given the fundamental concerns each side has with the other's proposals.
  • What preparations the Government is making for a ‘no deal' Brexit.
