Are employers doing enough to support workers of all ages? Lords intergenerational fairness committee to quiz CBI
The House of Lords Intergenerational Fairness Committee will next week take evidence from the Confederation of British Industry as it explores what employers can do both to support career development for younger employees and support older workers to stay in work longer
The Committee will hear from Matthew Percival, Head of Group, employment and employee relations CBI. The session will start at 11.40am on Tuesday 4 December in Committee Room 4A of the House of Lords.
Questions the Committee will put to Mr Percival include:
- How the employer/employee relationship has changed in recent decades and whether both sides now expect more flexibility from each other.
- Whether employers are doing enough to provide in-work training to their employees, especially at the beginning of their career.
- How employers can be encouraged to reward employee loyalty given that young people are less likely to move jobs than they have been in the past.
- The extent to which age discrimination is a barrier to longer working lives.
