Lords to debate the impact of Islamophobia


On Thursday 20 December 2018 members of the House of Lords will debate the impact of Islamophobia in the UK.

The debate will be opened by Lord Sheikh and held in the House of Lords Chamber.

Members scheduled to speak include Baroness Afshar, Baroness Chakrabarti, The Lord Bishop of Chichester, Baroness Burt of Solihull, Baroness Falkner of Margravine, Lord Kennedy of Southwark, Lord Parekh, Lord Singh of Wimbledon and Baroness Warsi.

Speaking ahead of the debate, Lord Sheikh said:

“As someone who is actively involved in promoting peace and harmony amongst all the communities, I felt that I should table this debate in order that we can discuss the various issues and perhaps suggest the appropriate remedial actions to be taken.”

Lord Bourne of Aberystwyth will respond on behalf of the Government.

The debate is expected to start at some point after 11.30am on Thursday 20 December 2018.
