What are the alternatives to the Court of Justice of the European Union? Lords EU Justice Committee to question academics and think tanks
The House of Lords EU Justice Sub-Committee will meet with academics from the University of Basel / Leiden University, the University of Sheffield, and Queen Mary University, and experts from Policy Exchange and the Institute for Government to discuss the wide range of options for enforcement and dispute resolution after Brexit.
Speaking to the Committee at 10.30am will be:

- Professor Graham Gee, University of Sheffield / Policy Exchange
- Professor Valsamis Mitsilegas, Queen Mary, University of London
- Raphael Hogarth, Institute for Government
Questions are likely to include:
- What would be the most workable alternatives to the CJEU after we leave the EU?
- How important is excluding the jurisdiction of the CJEU to achieving the aim of restoring Parliamentary sovereignty?
- If the UK Government objects to both the continued jurisdiction of the CJEU and ‘docking' with the EFTA Court, what (if any) limitations would this place on its future relationship with the EU?
- Could the UK continue to make use of mechanisms such as the European Arrest Warrant, which are dependent on EU law. whilst refusing to recognise the jurisdiction of the CJEU?
- How likely is it that the Withdrawal Agreement will be referred to the CJEU? Is there a significant risk of the CJEU finding the Withdrawal Agreement contrary to EU law and what would be the consequences of such a decision?
