What impact could Brexit have on the UK's food supply? Lords to hear evidence
Thirty per cent of food consumed in the UK comes from the EU, including over 83 per cent of its fresh vegetables. After Brexit, some believe that tariff and non-tariff barriers could result in higher prices and impact on the availability of food.
Given this, the House of Lords EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee will host a roundtable discussion with industry experts on Wednesday 7 February to discuss how Brexit might impact food prices, availability and choice.
Topics which the Committee are likely to cover include:
- Possible future tariffs and customs arrangements
- Whether Brexit could lead to more food being produced in the UK or imported from non-EU countries
- What impact leaving the Common Agricultural Policy may have on food prices and availability
- What model for future farm subsidies would be best to ensure food security
- How the food industry may be effected if freedom of movement for EU nationals ends
Taking part in the discussion will be representatives from:

- City University's Centre for Food Policy
The discussion will begin at 10:30am in Committee Room 4A of the House of Lords.
