What impact will leaving the EU have on food prices? Lords to question George Eustice MP

The Committee have already heard significant concerns from across the industry that leaving the Customs Union will mean additional border and customs procedures, increasing the potential for increased costs and lengthy delays. The Minister will be asked how the Government plans to reduce the impact of these risks and whether the arrangements will be in place in time for Brexit.

The Committee have also heard concerns that Brexit will impact on people's ability to eat healthy diets and could exacerbate food inequality. The Minister will also be questioned on what steps the Government is taking to ensure Brexit does not reduce the availability and affordability of fruit and vegetables for UK consumers.

The session will being at 10:30am. Topics likely to be discussed include:

• What benefits Brexit could have for food prices and availability;
• Whether the UK could produce more of its own food;
• The risks and benefits of importing more food from non-EU countries;
• Future tariffs on importing food from the EU;
• The impact of additional borders and customs checks; and
• Whether Brexit could increase food inequality.

The evidence session will take place in Committee Room 2 in the House of Lords.
