Lords to quiz Sky, Virgin Media and TalkTalk on internet regulation
The House of Lords Communications Committee will take evidence from three of the UK's largest Internet Service Providers (ISPs) on Tuesday 10 July. Sky, Virgin Media and TalkTalk will be questioned as part of the Committee's inquiry investigating internet regulation.
The session will cover topics including the liability that online platforms should have for the content that they host; how video on demand services and TV-like content should be regulated; and what principles and best practice should guide the design of internet services and other technological products, for example, for the protection of children.
The evidence session will begin at 3.30pm in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords. The Committee will hear from:
- Adam Kinsley, Director of Policy, Sky
- Daniel Butler, Head of Public Affairs and Policy, Virgin Media
- Iain Wood, Director of Corporate Affairs and Regulation, TalkTalk
Issues likely to be covered in the session include:
- The case for a new regulatory framework for the internet
- The Internet Safety Strategy
- The level of costs and regulatory burdens that internet intermediaries might be expected to bear to police online content and behaviour
- Whether there should be a more level playing field in the regulation of video on demand and broadcast television
- Net neutrality
