Home Secretary Sajid Javid to answer Lords questions on citizens' rights after Brexit

On Thursday 21 June Home Secretary Sajid Javid will give evidence to the House of Lords EU Justice Sub-Committee about citizens' rights post Brexit.

The EU Justice Sub-Committee is re-visiting the important question of citizens' rights after Brexit. This follows on from its inquiry ‘Brexit: acquired rights' in 2016. During its follow up inquiry, the Committee has taken evidence from then Immigration Minister Brendon Lewis MP, as well as academics and legal professionals.

Appearing at 11:00am Sajid Javid MP will be asking questions including:

  • How content are you with the current draft text of the Withdrawal Agreement and what outstanding issues are there relating to citizens' rights that should be agreed before it is finalised?
  • What impact do you believe the Home Office's ‘hostile environment' policy has had on EU nationals in the UK?
  • Given the problems that have been experienced at the Home Office (including the Windrush affair) how confident are you that the Department will be able to deliver the infrastructure to facilitate the registration of the 3 million EU nationals in the UK?
  • Would the Government consider offering those EU nationals who wish to remain the UK a streamlined low-cost offer of UK citizenship (rather than merely settled status)?
  • Are there any continuing negotiations between the UK and EU on issues such as onward free movement and family reunification rights?

The session will take place at 11:00am on Thursday 21 June in Committee Room 3.

The session is open to the public, and will be broadcast live on Parliament TV. If you would like to attend please go to the Cromwell Green Entrance and allow time to get through security.
