Lords to question Claire Perry on Brexit and climate change

In a one-off evidence session, the House of Lords EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee will question Claire Perry MP, Minister of State for Energy and Clean Growth at BEIS, on the effect of Brexit on the UK's action on climate change on Wednesday 21 March.

The Committee will ask the Minister what steps the Government is taking to ensure that Brexit does not undermine the UK's climate ambitions, and how Government will preserve and enhance the UK's action on climate change during the EU withdrawal process.

The session will begin at 11am in committee room 2 of the House of Lords.

Topics the Committee are likely to cover include:

  • How the UK will meet its carbon budgets in the absence of an EU-level framework
  • The UK's status within international climate agreements post-Brexit
  • The impact of losing EU funding for action on climate change
  • Government's view on the UK's future participation in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS)
  • The climate implications of the current EU proposals on the post-2020 Common Agricultural Policy and on clean energy legislation
