Lords to question Constitution Minister
The House of Lords Constitution Committee will question Chloe Smith MP, Minister for the Constitution on Wednesday 14 March.
Chloe Smith MP has been in post since January 2018, but previously held the post between September 2012 and October 2013. Her responsibilities include constitutional policy and democracy, propriety, ethics and transparency, knowledge management, Cabinet Office Parliamentary business and public bodies reform.
The session will start at 10am in House of Lords Committee Room 1.
Questions are likely to include:
- Can you tell us about your remit and responsibilities? What civil service resources do you have supporting your work?
- How are constitutional issues handled across Government? What is the division of responsibilities for constitutional issues and who is responsible for taking an overarching view of the constitution as a whole?
- What are the Government's priorities for the constitution and what plans do you have for constitutional reform, beyond those related to Brexit?
- What consideration has the Government given to how Parliament might scrutinise treaties post-Brexit?
- What strategy does the Government have for ensuring that devolution is well-understood in the civil service and what opportunities are available for civil servants to develop experience of, and links with, the devolved administrations?
