Lords Seaside Towns Regen Committee to take evidence on housing
What impact does second home ownership have on coastal communities? Do the right tools exist to drive up quality and safety in housing? How does population transience in an area affect its potential for regeneration?
These are among the questions the House of Lords Regenerating Seaside Towns and Communities Committee will be asking two panels of witnesses on Tuesday 20 November 2018.
At 3.20pm the Committee will hear from:
- Ian Higgins, Chartered Institute of Environmental Health
- Professor Darren Smith, Loughborough University
- John Stewart, Policy Manager, Residential Landlords Association.
At 4.10pm the Committee will hear from:
- Catherine Ryder, Head of Policy, National Housing Federation
- Richard Blyth, Head of Policy, Royal Town Planning Institute.
Other questions the Committee is likely to ask these witnesses include:
- What role does the private rented sector play in coastal communities? How does it contribute to the regeneration of those areas?
- How can licensing support coastal areas in tackling issues relating to poorly managed Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMOs)?
- How effectively are local authorities using the powers that currently exists to tackle substandard accommodation? Do local authorities require any additional powers?
These evidence sessions, which are open to the public, will begin at 3.20pm on Tuesday 20 November 2018 in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.
