Lords Seaside Towns Committee to hear from leading visitor attractions and pier operators


On Tuesday 16 October 2018 representatives from England's attractions and amusements industry will give evidence to the House of Lords Regenerating Seaside Towns Committee.  

At 3.20pm the Committee will hear from:

  • Bernard Donoghue, Director, Association of Leading Visitor Attractions
  • Kate Shane, Head of Blackpool Cluster Merlin Entertainments Group.

At 4.05pm the Committee will hear from:

  • John White, Chief Executive, British Amusement Catering Trade Association
  • Paul Kelly, Chief Executive, British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions
  • Tim Wardley, Chairman, National Piers Society.

Questions the Committee is likely to ask include:

  • What do the most recent visitor attraction figures suggest about the current state of the tourism industry in seaside towns?
  • What are the key challenges when investing in attractions and amusements in seaside locations?
  • How can skills and employment in seaside towns be better supported?
  • How can attraction owners and operators continue to develop and broaden their offer, to encourage repeat visitors and attract new customers?
  • What impact will leaving the European Union have on the attractions and amusements industry?
  • How successful have initiatives that seek to promote tourism and the visitor economy in seaside towns proven to be?
  • What role can heritage attractions play in the regeneration of coastal areas?

These evidence sessions, which are open to the public, will begin at 3.20pm on Tuesday 16 October 2018 in Committee Room 4A of the House of Lords.
