Lottery funders among the witnesses to give evidence to Seaside Towns Regen Committee
Representatives from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Arts Council England, Crown Estate, New Economics Foundation and Social Market Foundation will give evidence on Tuesday 6 November 2018 to the House of Lords Regenerating Seaside Towns Committee.
At 3.20pm the Committee will hear from:
- Laura Dyer, Deputy Chief Executive, Arts Council England
- Ros Kerslake, Chief Executive, Heritage Lottery Fund
- Dr David Tudor, Head of Minerals and Coastal, The Crown Estate.
Issues which the Committee are likely to discuss with these witnesses include the role that investment in the arts and culture can play in the regeneration of seaside towns, and how arts and heritage projects can be used to support the economy of coastal communities. The Committee will also consider the work done by the Crown Estate in managing foreshore and promoting and licensing leisure and industrial activities on the coast.
At 4.10pm the Committee will hear from:
- Fernanda Balata, Senior Programme Manager, New Economics Foundation
- Scott Corfe, Chief Economist, Social Market Foundation.
Topics likely to be covered in this session are possible policy interventions to address the common problems that seaside towns suffer, how funding for coastal areas could be improved, and the resources available to coastal communities to protect themselves from coastal flooding and erosion. The Committee is also likely to ask about the challenges across the education and skills system, particularly at secondary level, in seaside towns.
These evidence sessions, which are open to the public, will begin at 3.20pm on Tuesday 6 November 2018 in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.
