Information Commissioner, Twitter and Match Group to give evidence to Lords on internet regulation

The Committee will ask the Information Commissioner about her role in the digital regulatory framework, how she deals with areas of overlap with other regulators and about taking a principles-based approach to regulation.

The evidence session with the Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham will begin at 3.30pm in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.

In the second evidence session with representatives of Match Group and Twitter, the Committee will explore how policy makers can ensure that regulation is proportionate and effective across international jurisdictions and how regulation can be developed so that it does not impose excessive burdens for business.

The evidence session will begin at 4.30pm in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords. The Committee will hear from:

• Nick Pickles, Senior Strategist, Public Policy, Twitter

Issues likely to be covered over the sessions include:

• International regulation of the internet
• Content hosting and moderation
• How users' data is processed fairly and transparently
• Principles and best practice for the design of an ethical and safe internet
• Anonymity and verification.
