Lords to debate EU committee's report on Brexit's impact on UK-Irish relations
The House of Lords will debate the EU Committee's report Brexit: UK-Irish Relations when the House returns on Tuesday 5 September. The debate will provide an early opportunity to debate the Government's Brexit position paper on Northern Ireland and Ireland, published on 16 August.
The report, which was published in December 2016, identified Brexit as a ‘huge challenge for Ireland' and said the unique nature of UK-Irish relations required a ‘unique solution' in the Brexit negotiations.
The debate will provide an early opportunity to discuss the Government's Brexit position paper on Northern Ireland and Ireland, published on 16 August. It will be opened by Committee Member Lord Jay of Ewelme, and Northern Ireland Office Minister Lord Bourne of Aberystwyth will respond for the Government.
