Farmers, small businesses and landlords to give evidence on tax to Lords committee
On Monday 20 February 2017 the House of Lords Economic Affairs Finance Bill Sub-Committee will take evidence on the Government's proposals to Make Tax Digital (MTD).
At 2pm the Committee will hear from:
- Michael Parker, National Farmers Union (NFU)
- Edward Woodall, Association of Convenience Stores (ACS)
- Roger Southam, Administrative Burdens Advisory Board
- David Haig, Residential Landlords Association (RLA).
They will be asked questions including:
- Do small businesses know about HMRC's plans and are they ready to start submitting quarterly returns to HMRC in April 2018?
- What are the potential benefits of this change for small businesses?
- What could be done to encourage small businesses to adopt digital ways of working?
- What are the particular challenges for farmers and rural businesses?
- Is HMRC's estimate of the costs to business too low?
- Is HMRC right to start Making Tax Digital with the smallest businesses?
- Has HMRC listened to the concerns of small businesses?
This evidence session will take place at 2pm on Monday 20 February 2017 in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.
