Minister to face Lords questions on shifting power in the Middle East and the new US administration
Tobias Ellwood MP, Minister for the Middle East and Africa, appears before the House of Lords Select Committee on International Relations on Thursday 2 March as part of its inquiry into power changes in the Middle East, implications for UK policy, and the dilemmas faced in managing relations with the new US administration.
The Minister will be asked if, in response to steps by the Trump administration, the UK seems to have retracted from long-standing positions including its support for the two-state solution and for the UN Refugee Convention. Other questions will focus on the US position on sanctions on Iran, how the UK can better support international institutions such as the UN and NATO, and arms sales to Saudi Arabia.
The evidence session will take place at 11.30am, on Thursday 2 March in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.
