Lords EU committee to question DExEU Minister Robin Walker on Brexit
The House of Lords EU Committee will this week take evidence from DExEU Minister Robin Walker MP as part of its inquiries into the impact of Brexit on Gibraltar and the Crown Dependencies.
The Committee, which is tomorrow taking evidence in Edinburgh as part of an inquiry into Brexit and devolution, will also ask Mr Walker how the Government will honour the Prime Minster's pledge to work with the devolved nations to deliver a ‘Brexit that works for the whole of the United Kingdom'.
The evidence session will start at 10:05am on Thursday 2 February in Committee Room 4 of the House of Lords.
Areas the session will cover include:
- The implications for Gibraltar and the Crown Dependencies of the UK's decision to leave the EU.
- The mechanisms available for Gibraltar and the Crown Dependencies to communicate their views and concerns about Brexit to the UK Government.
- Whether it is possible that Spain might seek to veto Brexit negotiations over demands to renegotiate Gibraltar's sovereignty.
- How Gibraltar's desire to remain part of the single market for services can be balanced with the Prime Minister's commitment to take the UK out of the single market.
- How UK efforts to restrict free movement of labour will affect the Crown Dependencies' ability to meet their own needs to increase their working age populations.
