Immigration minister to give evidence to Lords Committee
The Immigration Minister Robert Goodwill MP will this week be giving evidence to a House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee inquiry on the impact of Brexit on the UK labour market.
This evidence session will be held on Tuesday 14 March 2017 and the minister will be joined by Jon Simmons, Head of Migration and Border Analysis at the Home Office.
Questions the Committee is likely to ask include:
- Does the Government still intend on reducing net migration to the “tens of thousands”? If so, over what period of time would that take place?
- Will the immigration of EU nationals be governed by the existing system for non-EU nationals?
- How confident are you that British workers will be in a position to substitute for the EU workforce after Brexit?
- Does the Government's focus on high-skilled immigration risk neglect the sectors that rely on lower-skilled workers?
- Do you expect there to a transitional period following Brexit before the new system comes into place?
The evidence session will take place at 4.15pm on Tuesday 14 March 2017 in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords.
