Brexit: competition - Lords Committee to hear evidence from Trades Union Congress, Which? and Industrial Communities Alliance
The House of Lords EU Internal Market Sub-Committee will hear evidence from representatives from the Trades Union Congress, Which?, and the Industrial Communities Alliance, on Thursday 19 October as part of its inquiry into UK competition policy post-Brexit.
The session will start at 10:10am on Thursday 19 October in Committee Room 4A of the House of Lords. Giving evidence to the Committee will be:
- Kate Bell, Head of the Economic and Social Affairs Department, Trades Union Congress
- Caroline Normand, Director of Policy, Which?
- Professor Steve Fothergill, Director, Industrial Communities Alliance
Questions will include:
- Is there any evidence that some essential UK markets are failing under the current competition law and policy framework?
- What opportunities does Brexit offer the UK to design a national competition policy which develops local and regional business?
- What aspects of the Commission's State aid framework might the UK wish to (i) maintain and (ii) change in a domestic framework?
- Should post-Brexit UK State aid policy and controls be set at a UK, devolved national or regional level?
- What might be the opportunities and challenges if the UK chose to pursue a more flexible approach to public procurement post Brexit?
