Chair of the Russell Group and President of King's College to give evidence to Lords inquiry on university financing
Chair of the Russell Group and Vice-Chancellor of Glasgow University, Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli will give evidence to the House of Lords Economics Affairs Committee on Tuesday 31 October 2017.
He will be joined by international higher education expert, Professor Simon Marginson from University College London and the President and Principal of King's College London, Professor Edward Byrne.
The session is part of the Committee's ongoing inquiry into the economics of higher, further and technical education. The Committee will use the session to explore comparisons between the English system of funding and that in place in Scotland and in other countries.
Questions the Committee is likely to ask include:
- How does participation in higher education in England, and the UK, compare to other countries?
- Are more graduates in England employed in non-graduate jobs than in other countries?
- Has free higher education in Scotland led to more participation amongst people from disadvantaged backgrounds?
- What lessons does the removal of the cap on student numbers for higher education in Australia have for England?
- Should universities publish the costs of courses and lower fees for cheaper subjects?
- How reliant are universities on international students?
The evidence session will take place at 3.35pm on Tuesday 31 October in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords.
