Citizenship Committee to question Ofsted on citizenship education, and charities and rights groups
The House of Lords Committee on Citizenship and Civic Engagement will take evidence from Ofsted, a former Ofsted Specialist Adviser, and an assistant head teacher on citizenship education at its meeting on Wednesday 1 November at 10.30am
Following this first session, at 11.30am representatives from Disability Rights UK, RNIB, Age UK and the Centre of Ageing Better will give evidence on citizenship and civic engagement for older people and for disabled people.
The first evidence session will start at 10:30am on Wednesday 1 November in Committee Room 3A of the House of Lords. Giving evidence to the Committee from Ofsted will be:

- Scott Harrison, Former Ofsted Specialist Adviser for Citizenship
- Ryan Mason, Assistant Head Teacher, Addey and Stanhope School, Lewisham
Questions the witnesses will be asked include:
- What is citizenship education attempting to achieve? What does Ofsted look for in citizenship education? What else should it look for?
- How would you describe the current state of citizenship education?
- What does Ofsted look for in terms of British values? Are schools currently doing well at promoting fundamental British values?
- When is Ofsted planning on next investigating the state of citizenship education?
At 11.30am, giving evidence regarding ages and disability will be:
- Philip Connolly, Policy and Development Manager, Disability Rights UK
- Fazilet Hadi, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Advocacy, RNIB
- Angela Kitching, Head of External Affairs, Age UK
- Dan Jones, Director of Innovation and Change, Centre of Ageing Better
