Does the media report opinion polls accurately?

The House of Lords Committee on Polling and Digital Media will next week take evidence from former senior news executives as well as Buzzfeed's Political Editor as it explores how the media reports opinions polls.

The Committee will ask the witnesses about the challenges journalists face in reporting opinion polls accurately, the potential impact of inaccurate reporting on election campaigns and the impact and accuracy of polls commissioned by advocacy groups and how the media report those.

The evidence sessions will start at 10:45am on Tuesday 24 October in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords. Giving evidence to the Committee will be:

10:45am - 11:45am

  • David Cowling, Former Editor of Political Research, BBC
  • Jim Waterson, Politics Editor, Buzzfeed

11:45am - 12:45pm

  • Professor Richard Tait, University of Cardiff
  • Sue Inglish, Former Head of Political Programmes, Analysis and Research, BBC
