Europe Minister to give evidence on sanctions to Lords EU Committee
What are the pros and cons of having an independent UK sanctions regime? Will the Government allow intelligence to substantiate sanctions listings after Brexit?
Does the UK have to increase its diplomatic efforts around the world to maintain its current level of influence after Brexit?
These are among the questions the Europe Minister, Sir Alan Duncan MP, will be asked on Thursday 26 October 2017 when he appears before the House of Lords EU External Affairs Sub-Committee.
Other questions the Committee is likely to ask include:
- Countries such as Norway and Switzerland regularly align themselves with the EU's sanctions regime. Will the UK follow suit?
- What is the possible impact of complying with an independent UK sanctions regime on both UK businesses and foreign businesses operating in the UK?
- At what point in the exit negotiations will issues such as future foreign policy co-operation and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) co-operation be discussed?
- Will the transitional arrangements include provisions relating to foreign policy co-operation?
This evidence session will take place at 11am on Thursday 26 October 2017 in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords.
