Expat pressure groups to give evidence to Lords Committee on Brexit and reciprocal healthcare
The House of Lords EU Home Affairs Sub-Committee will continue to take evidence for its inquiry Brexit: reciprocal healthcare on Wednesday 18 October. Giving evidence will be campaign and pressure groups for the rights of EU citizens including the3million, New Europeans and British in Europe.
The Committee will explore with the witnesses their views on whether the rights to reciprocal healthcare of EU citizens will be respected by the UK Government after Brexit and the key priorities for a transitional agreement covering reciprocal healthcare arrangements.
At 10:30am the Committee will hear from:
- Roger Boaden MBE, Member, Expat Citizen Rights in E
- Christopher Chantrey OBE, Chairman, British Community Committee of France; Member of the Steering Committee, British in Europe
At 11:15am the Committee will hear from:
- Samia Badani, Head of Campaigns, New Europeans
- Anne-Laure Donskoy, Founding Co-Chair, the3million
Questions the Committee are likely to ask include:
- Are the Government's proposals – to maintain reciprocal healthcare arrangements that are as close as possible to the status quo – possible?
- What is the likelihood that UK citizens resident in other Member States will be able to retain access to reciprocal healthcare arrangements should they move to another EU Member State after the UK's withdrawal?
- Will family members coming to the UK from the EU to continue to benefit from reciprocal healthcare arrangements?
- Which groups of UK citizens resident in the EU benefit most from existing reciprocal healthcare arrangements?
The evidence session will begin at 10:30 am on Wednesday 18 October and take place in Committee room 3 of the House of Lords.
