What would happen to the city if there is a ‘no deal' Brexit?
The House of Lords EU Committee will tomorrow take evidence from TheCityUK as part of its ‘deal or no deal' inquiry looking into the possible impact of Brexit with or without a trade deal, as well as the prospects for transitional arrangements.
The evidence session, with Miles Celic, Chief Executive of TheCityUK, will start at 16:10 on Tuesday 24 October in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords.
Areas the session will cover include:
- Possible stumbling blocks to an agreement being reached on financial services;
- What would be the impact, either positive or negative, for the UK financial services industry if no deal is reached before the UK leaves the EU?
- How likely is it that financial services jobs would relocate from London in the event of the UK leaving the EU without a deal in place, and would they locate to the EU or to New York?
- Is the Government doing enough to prepare for the possibility of ‘no deal'? What more could be done to support the financial services sector for that scenario?
- Is a transitional arrangement a pre-requisite to a successful deal? When does a transitional arrangement need to be agreed?
