Members of the Lords, including the president of the Staffordshire Historic Buildings Trust and a former non-executive board member of the Countryside Agency, discussed the key principles and purpose of the Bat Habitats Regulation Bill during second reading, on Friday 27 April.

This is a private member's bill. A private member's bill is a type of public bill (that affects the public). Private members' bills must go through the same set of procedures as other public bills.

Members discussed a number of subjects covered by the bill, including the conservation of churches and historic buildings, the vicinity of bat habitats to proposed new buildings and the protection of other animal species.

Committee stage, the first chance to amend the bill and make changes, is yet to be scheduled.
