Urgent Question: Gender pay gap: 18 April 2018
18 April 2018 (updated on 18 April 2018)
Harriet Harman, Chair of the Joint Committee on Human Rights, asked an Urgent Question in the House of Commons on the gender pay gap.
The question was responded to by the Minister for Women, Victoria Atkins, who stated the Government had introduced a new £500 million fund to support women and men who have been out of the labour market for a long period to return to work, and have doubled the early education provision so that all three and four-year-olds from working households in England can access 30 hours’ childcare a week.
Harriet Harman responded by claiming that eight out of 10 employers pay men more than they pay women—and that is across every sector, including the retail sector.
