On Monday 17 December there were four short debates. These took place in the Moses Room, a room outside the Lords chamber used to host extra work. Any member can attend and participate, as with debates in the Lords chamber.

The debates covered a range of subjects, including dismissal of workers with terminal illnesses, the standard of gas safety in UK homes, the current situation in Ukraine and a new report by Commission on Religious Education.

Each debate lasted for approximately for one hour.

Terminally ill workers

This debate was proposed by Lord Balfe (Conservative), chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Future of Work and vice president of the British Airline Pilots Association.

The debate asked the government what action is being taken to prevent workers being dismissed from their jobs following a diagnosis of terminal illness.

Gas safety standards

This debate was proposed by Lord Hunt of Kings Heath (Labour), president of the Royal Society of Public Health and patron of campaign organisation Co-Gas Safety.

The debate looked at the current standard of gas safety in UK homes.

Situation in Ukraine

This debate was proposed by Viscount Waverley (Crossbench), vice chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Russia and chair of the New Silk Road Forum for the promotion of dialogue between governments and industry leaders.

This debate considered the government's assessment of the current situation in Ukraine.

Commission on Religious Education

This debate was proposed by Lord Alderdice (Liberal Democrat), president of the All-Party Parliamentary Group Against Anti-Semitism and vice president of the International Dialogue Initiative.

This debate discussed the report by the Commission on Religious Education: 'Religion and Worldviews: the way forward', published in September, and whether the government intends to publish any response.
