This week in the House of Commons MPs debated Carillion, the Nuclear Safeguards Bill and more.
Legislation: Government Bills
Financial Guidance and Claims Bill
The Financial Guidance and Claims Bill had its Second Reading in the Commons on Monday 22 January and has been sent to Public Bill Committee for detailed examination and evidence gathering.
Nuclear Safeguards Bill
The Nuclear Safeguards Bill has its Remaining Stages in the Commons on Tuesday 23 January and is now being considered by the House of Lords.
Telecommunications Infrastructure (Relief from Non-Domestic Rates) Bill
The Commons considered Lords amendments to the Telecommunications Infrastructure Bill on Tuesday 23 January. The Bill is now awaiting Royal Assent.
Legislation: Private Members' Bills
Four Private Members' Bills were introduced to the House this week.
Urgent Questions and statements
This week, three Urgent Questions were asked in the House of Commons:
- Parliament News: Urgent Question on Government plans to stop private pension abuse
- Parliament News: Urgent Question on judgment on judicial review against PIP regulations
- Parliament News: Urgent Question on David Meller's position at DfE following Presidents Dinner

Prime Minister's Questions
On Wednesday 24 January 2018 MPs asked the Prime Minister questions about the NHS, RBS closures and more.
Opposition Day debates
On Wednesday 24 January, MPs debated refugees and human rights in the House of Commons, in the first of two debates to take place on subjects chosen by the Opposition. The second Opposition debate was on Carillion and public sector outsourcing.
Backbench Business debates
On Thursday 25 January in the Commons Chamber, MPs took part in two debates which had been scheduled by the Backbench Business Committee:
- Joint Enterprise
- Proscription of Hezbollah
Westminster Hall debates
