Lords debates 70th anniversary of the NHS

Members of the Lords, including a vice dean in the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London and the president of the Royal Society for Public Health, debated the creation of the National Health Service in 1948, and the case for integration of health, mental health, social and community care to equip the NHS for the next 70 years, in the House of Lords on Thursday 5 July.

This was a general debate. They normally take place on a Thursday in the chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.
The debate was proposed by Lord Darzi of Denham (Labour), vice dean for health policy and engagement in the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London

- Baroness Watkins of Tavistock (Crossbench), former non-executive director of the South West Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust
Lord O'Shaughnessy (Conservative), parliamentary under-secretary in the Department for Health and Social Care, responded on behalf of the government.
