Lords debates personal savings

Members of the Lords, including a former shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer and the former director of Mars Asset Management, will debate measures being taken to promote personal savings and the role they can play in building a stronger and fairer economy, in the House of Lords on Thursday 12 July.

This is a general debate. They normally take place on a Thursday in the chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.
The debate was proposed by Lord Leigh of Hurley (Conservative), director of City and Suburban Investments Ltd.
Members expected to take part include:
- Lord Davies of Oldham (Labour), Lords opposition spokesperson in HM Treasury
- Lord Northbrook (Conservative), former director of Mars Asset Management
- Lord Palmer of Childs Hill (Liberal Democrat), former chair of the Hendon Citizens Advice Bureau
- Lord Suri (Conservative), former member of the Lord Chancellor's Advisory Committee on General Commissioners of Income Tax
Lord Lilley (Conservative), economic consultant and former shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, is expected to make his maiden speech.
Lord Young of Cookham (Conservative), Lords spokesperson in the Cabinet Office, will respond on behalf of the government.
