Defence Secretary, Gavin Williamson, updated the House on UK military operations in Afghanistan, on Wednesday 11 July 2018.

The Defence Secretary announced that with the upcoming elections in Afghanistan, NATO has requested additional support for the region and that the UK would be sending an additional 440 non-combat personnel to the region in order to assist. This would bring the total number of personnel to around 1100. The Secretary went on to state this would show the UK's commitment to Afghanistan and NATO as well as to the progress of stability for the country.

Shadow Secretary of State for Defence, Nia Griffith, responded on behalf of the Opposition and asked for further details on the timetable for keeping UK troops in Afghanistan and for details on the training which is to be provided to Afghanistan forces.
