Statement: exiting the EU: 9 July 2018

The Prime Minister, Theresa May, updated the House of Commons on the Government's Brexit strategy on Monday 9 July 2018.
Prime Minister, Theresa May, paid tribute to the former Secretary of State for leaving the EU, David Davies and to the former Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, following their resignations from the Cabinet.
The Prime Minister went on to update the House on the Cabinet meeting at Chequers, saying that the Cabinet had agreed to a responsible and credible basis for progressing negotiations with the EU towards a new relationship after the UK leaves the EU on 29 March 2019.
Jeremy Corbyn, responded on behalf of the Opposition, and criticised the Government's handling of the Brexit negotiations. He went on to state there were a few months left until the negotiations are supposed to conclude and that there was a crisis in the Government as two Secretaries of State have resigned. He commented on the uncertainty of the Brexit negotiations and the need for a Government who are capable of governing and negotiating for Britain.
