On 18 July, Shadow Transport Secretary, Andy McDonald, asked the Department for Transport to update the House of Commons on the performance of the Govia Thameslink franchise.

Govia Thameslink (GTR) currently operates the 'Thameslink', 'Southern, 'Great Northern', and 'Gatwick Express' franchises.

McDonald told the House, "for four years, Govia’s appalling service and performance have wreaked havoc and misery in the lives of millions of people" and asked "What does this disgraceful company have to do to be stripped of its contact?"

In response, Transport Minister Jo Johnson said, "We will establish during the hard review whether GTR has been in breach of its contractual obligations. That process is under way."

Transcripts of proceedings in the House of Commons Chamber are available in Hansard online three hours after they happen.
