Shadow Home Secretary, Diane Abbott, asked an urgent question in the House of Commons on the Government’s policy on the rendition of UK citizens who may be subject to capital punishment.

The Minister for Security and Economic Crime, Ben Wallace, responded on behalf of the Government and stated that the Government take their responsibility to protect the public seriously and that it there is evidence crimes have been committed, individuals would be brought to justice in accordance with due legal process regardless of their nationality.

The Minister went on to refer to the specific case of Alexanda Kotey and El Shafee Elsheikh and commented on how as the case is ongoing it was important to protect the integrity of the criminal investigation.
